“A Lethal, Horrific, Slaughter of a Travesty for Florida Black Bear Families” -Susan Hargreaves
Havana-Did FWC Commissioners leave out any way of killing bears horrifically today?
Today hunters voted to hunt bear families for trophy’s.
Well, what’s so unusual about the aforementioned statement you might ask.
The hunters are FWC commissioners in charge of choosing who to kill and how to kill, they were appointed (not elected) by Governor Ron DeSantis to conserve on the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
On Aug.13 FWC Commissioners voted for a series of extreme cruel deaths for bears families.
Those commissioners present voted unanimously.
They voted for up to 10 people to shoot at one bear with only one person posing a permit.
They voted for bears to be baited and lured.
They voted for bears to be killed with arrows, a slow and painful death.
They voted for no oversight, no check stations. (You can kill a bear and email the FWC to let them know, this is known as an “honor” system-what could possibly go wrong?)
They voted to kill bear families at a time when they’re sleeping in their dens or in a state of torpor for 23 days starting on Dec 6th.
Cubs stay with their mothers for up to 3-4 years.
In the last 2015 hunt in two days over 320 bears were killed including nursing bears and cubs.
The only reason it was stopped at two days was due to the animal protectors who were watching the numbers at the monitor check stations and calling for FWC staff to call it off.
One hunter at a station laughed about how he had to drag cubs off the dead mother to take her body.
No oversight. No humanity and No mercy.
The only one who can stop it now is Governor DeSantis this is why we began our billboard campaign in Tallahassee yesterday-two of which are stationed enroute to the Governors mansion.

I fear Florida's FWC-authorized bear hunt will be a bloody, cruel massacre | Opinion
Shame on Gov. DeSantis for enabling this hunt. True magic is seeing rescued wildlife return to freedom, a reminder of why we fight to protect them.
