Thank you for Helping Animal Hero Kids, Inc. (“AHK”) achieve the mission of empowering youth to help animals in need. Animal Hero Kids global reach is accomplished with caring volunteers like you.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Fostering empathy and kindness in children and teens by encouraging and recognizing compassionate and courageous acts that help all species of animals; and offering complimentary, interactive, humane education programs highlighting stories of the rescue and aid of animals in need.
NECESSARY TRAININGS
Orientation – An overview of the organization and volunteer expectations
May include, but not limited to:
- Meet and greet with Founder and Author and/or AHK lead representative
- Review of Volunteer Guidelines: Policy & Procedures, Protocols, Consent and Release Forms
- Tour of the necessary event environment, sign up/in procedures, FAQ’s.
VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
Co-Presidents
This position requires a willingness to speak out for animals in a positive manner via activities such as the following:
Participating in videos advocating against the abuse and exploitation of animals in: Factory farming, circuses, hunting, laboratories, aquariums, zoos, companion animals, puppy mills
Attending demonstrations or protests
Speaking to city or county representatives advocating for the humane treatment of animals
Speaking to peers in schools and at AHK events
Recruiting other AHK volunteers
Volunteers in this position are required to:
Review videos on the media page of the AHK website
Read the AHK book
Familiarize themselves with the AHK mission statement
Write a brief statement (one page or less) about how you feel you can make a difference in animals’ lives
Preparation: All Necessary Trainings and a signed Volunteer Guidelines by legal guardian
AHK Storytellers/Educators for Schools
This position requires patience, positive and a non-judgmental attitude, an even temperament, and a broad knowledge of AHK protocols and history, a broad knowledge of the book Animal Hero Kids Voices For The Voiceless.
Volunteers in this position will be:
Educating children in the schools about AHK and highlighting stories about animal rescue from the AHK book, Animal Hero Kids Voices For The Voiceless. Distributing the AHK book to students and local libraries.
This position is needed year-round.
Preparation: Reading the book Animal Hero Kids Voices For The Voiceless, all necessary trainings plus shadowing a seasoned volunteer during (at least) one school event.
Greeters/AHK Ambassadors for Advocacy
This position requires patience, positive and a non-judgmental attitude, an even temperament, and a broad knowledge of AHK protocols and history, a broad knowledge of the position AHK holds with regard to a specific protest.
Volunteers in this position will be:
Engaging with the general public in local communities and across the country
Initiating education presentations for the student body.
Soliciting educators at schools across the country
Initiating special event needs for the student body
Acting as liaison between school and AHK
Acting as liaison between the organized event and AHK.
This position is needed year-round as per needs.
Preparation: All necessary trainings plus interview of AHK founder with proper procedures on how to best represent AHK during any particular event.
Sales
Special event sales of T-shirts, AHK Voices for the Voiceless book, other relevant merchandise.
The Volunteer in this position will be directing the flow of traffic for an event, will be on their feet much of the shift. Shifts from two – four hours.
*This position is needed during special events sponsored by another organization or hosted by AHK.
Duties include, but aren’t limited to:
- Store/retail customer service
- Merchandising, pricing and inventory management
- Collecting funds and documenting sales
- Special sales events
Preparation: Orientation, & interview with AHK representative.
Marketing & Events
Perhaps your availability is the time for a “one-time” gig. That’s okay too! AHK is always in need of those who are able to give a day at one of our upcoming events.
Volunteers in this position will:
Possess strong interpersonal skills and a detailed knowledge of the specific event
Sales skills are a plus
Help with various aspects of the set-up, execution, and cleanup of Special Events
A Volunteer T-Shirt or nametag is mandatory and will be worn as uniform at every event.
Preparation: Orientation and onsite training
Duties include, but aren’t limited to:
- Handing out marketing materials
- Advocates for our organization
- Manning tables and selling merchandise
- Handling money and credit card merchant services applications
- Collecting/selling tickets
- Moving tables and chairs & putting up signage
- Retrieving materials from alternate locations

Animal Hero Kids, Inc (“AHK”) was established in 2011.
Our mission statement is as follows:
Fostering empathy and kindness in children and teens by encouraging and recognizing compassionate and courageous acts that help all species of animals; and offering complimentary, interactive, humane education programs highlighting stories of the rescue and aid of animals in need.
We thank you for your commitment to volunteering for AHK. As a valued member of our team, we would like to make sure all members are in alignment with activities and guidelines as they relate to AHK. These guidelines are meant to maintain continuity and compliance within Animal Hero Kids, Inc. AHK is a secular organization and does not discriminate based on race, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES
The following are activities requiring prior authorization from an approved representative:
Use of AHK name/logos/photos/videos:
The use of the name Animal Hero Kids, Inc., Animalherokids.org, or any logos/photos/videos associated with AHK is prohibited without prior authorization. Examples of prohibited uses include but are not limited to: unauthorized creation of website pages, social media pages/accounts, videos, advertising or marketing campaigns. If AHK approves the creation of any such accounts/pages/videos/etc. using the AHK name and/or logos, AHK reserves the right to remove or request removal/deletion of these accounts or remove individual “postings” if AHK does not feel they appropriately represent the organization. Social Media Platforms: Animal Hero Kids, Animal Hero Kids, Inc. and AnimalHeroKids.org may NOT be used in the page titles of personal accounts. References to AHK may be used in comments or postings but not in official account names.
For example: Twitter name “Animal Hero Kids Inc volunteer Jane Doe” is not acceptable. Jane Doe can tweet about AHK but cannot use the organizational name in the title.
For example: Facebook page “John Doe Animal Hero Kids Volunteer” may not be used. John Doe can post or comment or use AHK in his description, but may not use Animal Hero Kids in the page name.
Fundraising:
Any fundraising activities to benefit AHK must be approved through an AHK representative. AHK may designate a representative to collect proceeds. Otherwise, proceeds must be documented and turned over to a designated AHK representative immediately after collection. Email education@animalherokids.org for further instructions on individual events. At no time should an AHK volunteer attempt to solicit funds for any other organization at an AHK event.
Marketing:
AHK marketing materials should be used at all times. Any hand-made marketing materials must be pre-approved before use/distribution. No materials should be distributed containing the AHK name and/or logo without prior approval. Marketing materials should be distributed as requested by AHK representatives and all unused materials should be returned to AHK.
Minor Children:
At all times, Volunteers are responsible for their own minor children. AHK’s priority is the safety of all children at AHK events. Because AHK events are children-centered, AHK requests Volunteers report any safety concerns they may observe. *See waivers and liability.
Conduct:
AHK requires that all Volunteers conduct themselves in such a way as to honor the spirit of the AHK mission statement. Because this organization works with children, AHK asks Volunteers to refrain from any behavior that would be considered offensive or inappropriate in the presence of minors.
WAIVERS AND LIABILITY
Release and Waiver
The Volunteer (and Guardian) do(es) hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless AHK and their successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from the Volunteer’s Activities with AHK.
The Volunteer (and Guardian) understand(s) that this Release discharges AHK from any liability or claim that the Volunteer, and in the event the Volunteer is a minor child, that the Volunteer and Guardian may have against AHK with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death or property damage that may result from the Volunteer’s Activities with AHK, whether caused by the negligence of AHK or its officers, directors, employees, or agents or otherwise.
The Volunteer (and Guardian) also understand(s) that AHK does not assume any responsibility for or obligation to provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health or disability insurance in the event of injury, illness, death or property damage.
The Volunteer (and Guardian) do(es) hereby release and forever discharge AHK from any claim whatsoever that arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment or service rendered in connection with the Volunteer’s Activities with AHK or with the decision by any representative or agent of AHK to exercise the power to consent to medical or dental treatment as such power may be granted and authorized in the Parental Authorization for Treatment of a Minor Child.
Assumption of the Risk
The Volunteer (and Guardian) understand(s) that the Activities may include work that may be hazardous to the Volunteer, including, but not limited to, construction for an event; loading and unloading; transportation to and from the sites; and exposure to elements, which may cause or worsen certain illnesses, especially if the Volunteer does not wear protective equipment, is exposed for extended periods of time, or has a pre-existing immune system deficiency.
The Volunteer (and Guardian) hereby expressly and specifically assume(s) the risk of injury or harm in the Activities and release(s) AHK from all liability for any loss, cost, expense, injury, illness, death or property damage resulting directly or indirectly from the Activities with AHK.
Insurance
The Volunteer (and Guardian) understand(s) that, except as otherwise agreed to by AHK in writing, AHK is under no obligation to provide, carry or maintain health, medical travel, disability or other insurance coverage for any Volunteer.
Each Volunteer is expected and encouraged to obtain his or her own health, medical, travel, disability or other insurance coverage.
Photographic Release
The Volunteer (and Guardian) do(es) hereby consent that the Volunteer’s photograph may be taken or his or her image
recorded digitally or by video camera while engaged in activities with AHK and do(es) hereby grant and convey unto AHK all right, title and interest in any and all photographic images and video and/or audio recordings made by AHK during the Volunteer’s Activities with AHK, including, but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings. The Volunteer (and Guardian) do(es) further grant and convey unto AHK all right to identify the Volunteer by the Volunteer’s name in or around any and all such photographic images and video and/or audio recordings made by AHK or its representatives on site or other during the Volunteer’s Activities with AHK.
Other
The Volunteer (and Guardian) expressly agree(s) that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State in which the volunteer is actively participating with AHK, and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with such state laws.
The Volunteer (and Guardian) further agree(s) that in the event that any clause or provision of this Release shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provisions of this Release which shall continue to be enforceable.
Further, a waiver of a right under this Release does not prevent the exercise of any other right.
